When Guybrush passes something he can pick up, use or look at, his head automatically tracks on that object and an option or series of options will appear at the bottom of the screen. Use the arrow keys to move Guybrush around, choosing between character-relative and screen-relative movement. If you’ve played Grim Fandango, you’re already familiar with this new setup. LucasArts appears to have discarded its old SCUMM adventure interface in favor of keyboard-based controls. You’re encouraged to try all kinds of things, even the totally ludicrous, just to see what happens the game usually rewards you for the trouble. As such, getting to the final destination isn’t as important as enjoying the journey. This was actually the first game in the Monkey Island series to use voice acting and it really does help get you more invested in what is going on.Īs with the previous games, Escape from Monkey Island is a blend of pirate adventure, puzzle solving, and goofy humor. During the 90s, voice acting more often than not was not that great, but there was one company that constantly knocked it out of the park and that was Lucasarts. This is the kind of thing that consoles simply struggled within the 90s! It looks fantastic, with some truly wonderful artwork that is brought to life with some amazing animation.

Like A Movie Come To LifeĮven though the game engine was rather old by this point, Lucasarts was able to squeeze all they could out of it and as a result, The Curse of Monkey Island is one of the most cinematic games in the series. The story does have a few twists and turns that help keep you invested as you play, but it is the delivery of the story that really gets you invested. This time you are trying to save your special lady from that evil ghost pirate, Captain LeChuck.
The story of The Curse of Monkey Island is that once again you are playing as the daring, good-hearted, and lovable, Guybrush Threepwood. The story is not meant to be taken seriously and it will force you to have a smile on your face the majority of the time you play it. Like the other games in the series, this one here has a fantastic story.
